Silver Lake College to Host Blood Drive

Silver Lake College will be hosting a Blood Drive on campus to benefit the local Blood Center of Wisconsin.  The Drive takes place Wednesday, October 7 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm on the Silver Lake College campus, 2406 South Alverno Road in Manitowoc.  Individuals wishing to participate can either schedule an appointment by calling 920-686-6137 or simply stop in at the Student Services Office.  Individuals are able eligible to donate if their last donation was on or before August 12, 2009.

Francis Fest Activities to Take Place at Silver Lake College

In a week-long festival in celebration of the Feast of St. Francis (October 4), Silver Lake College, in cooperation with the community and a number of other Franciscan-sponsored organizations throughout the city of Manitowoc, will host multiple events from September 28 through October 4.

The festival will begin with the annual Francis Fest Fish Fry on Friday, October 2, serving Perch plate dinners consisting of perch, potato salad or French fries, coleslaw, rye bread and beverage between 4:00 and 8:00 PM in the College Cafeteria. Children’s perch plates, hot dog plates, and desserts are also available. Also available this year is Drive Thru Carry Out. Other College-sponsored events will include horse-drawn wagon rides, an art exhibit, contemporary Transitus Service with bonfire, and more.

Silver Lake College Presents Living With Franciscan Ideals Art Exhibit

Silver Lake College, 2406 South Alverno Road, invites the public to attend the annual reflective Franciscan art exhibit.  This year the focus is Living with Franciscan Ideals.  The exhibit will appear in the art hallway from September 23rd through October 10th.

This exhibit will feature some significant influences in the life of Francis and his total conversion and imitation of the most high God.  The San Damiano Crucifix with its Trinitarian and Paschal Mystery theme is at the heart of Franciscan spirituality and a five foot San Damiano Crucifix will be on display. Booklets will also be available for meditative reflection. 

The exhibit will feature a number of paintings and other art media by several of the Franciscan Sisters as well as several unique sculpture pieces of Francis. 

The Exhibit is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday: from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

As part of the Franciscan Fest activities, the exhibit will be open late on Friday, Oct. 2 for the fish fry beginning at 4 p.m.

Silver Lake College Celebrates New Academic Year with Matriculation Ceremony

Silver Lake College celebrated the start of the 2009-2010 academic year with a Matriculation Ceremony on Tuesday.  This new tradition at Silver Lake was designed as part of the new students Orientation and Registration Session and gave faculty, staff, and administrators a chance to welcome and introduce members the new class to the campus community.

Silver Lake College Offers Free Employment Workshop

Silver Lake College invites individuals to attend a free employment workshop Thursday, September 24 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm in the Mount Senario Education Center Visitors Lounge, 1500 Port Arthur Road in Ladysmith, WI.         

This workshop is designed for any individual that is currently unemployed, underemployed, or simply afraid of losing their job and does not know where to begin.  This workshop is designed to help individuals identify their strengths and match them with career and job choices; understand the world of work and how to predict job changes and careers of the future; learn about the educational opportunities in the region and how to apply for financial aid.

This workshop is being presented by Jan Algozine, Director of Experiential Learning & Career Resources at Silver Lake College and Jane Bishop, Vice President for Enrollment Management at Silver Lake College. Silver Lake College welcomes students to new residence hall

On Wednesday, Silver Lake College officially opened their newly renovated Residence Hall to new students.  Members of the faculty and staff  pitched in to help students and parents unload their cars and transport their belongings into their new home.
