SLC Presents Java Jam with Nick Motil

Silver Lake College invites the community to attend Java Jam on Saturday, October 2, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Java Jam will feature the music of Nick Motil, an Ohio guitarist and vocalist influenced by Paul Simon and David Gray. Coffee and specialty drinks will be available for purchase. Designed to be a night of music, coffee and fun, Java Jam is open to individuals of all ages and free to the public. All proceeds from the event will benefit SLC Campus Ministry and SLC Optimist Club projects. Java Jam serves as a close to a full day of Francis Fest activities including horse drawn wagon rides, bingo, and a bake and plant sale. For additional information, please call 920-686-6163.


Silver Lake College Presents Living with Franciscan Ideals Art Exhibit

Silver Lake College invites the public to attend the annual reflective Franciscan art exhibit. This year the focus is Living with Franciscan Ideals. The exhibit will be in the art hall of Silver Lake College, 2406 S. Alverno Road, from Saturday, Sept. 22, through October 9.

This exhibit will feature some significant influences in the life of Francis and his total conversion and imitation of God most high. The San Damiano Crucifix with its Trinitarian and Paschal Mystery theme is at the heart of Franciscan spirituality. A five foot San Damiano Crucifix will be on display.

The exhibit will feature a number of paintings and other art media by several of the Franciscan Sisters as well as several unique sculpture pieces of Francis.
The Exhibit is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday: from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Besides the exhibit the Franciscan Fest activities for Saturday, Oct. 2 will include a plant sale, horse drawn wagon rides, brat and bake sale, bingo, games, and Java Jam.


Francis Fest Activities to Take Place at Silver Lake College

In a week-long festival in celebration of the Feast of St. Francis (October 4), Silver Lake College, in cooperation with the community and a number of other Franciscan-sponsored organizations throughout the city of Manitowoc, will host multiple events from September 28 through October 4.

The festival will begin with the annual Francis Fest Fish Fry on Friday, October 2, serving Perch plate dinners consisting of perch, potato salad or French fries, coleslaw, rye bread and beverage between 4:00 and 8:00 PM in the College Cafeteria. Children’s perch plates, hot dog plates, and desserts are also available. Also available this year is Drive Thru Carry Out. Other College-sponsored events will include horse-drawn wagon rides, an art exhibit, contemporary Transitus Service with bonfire, and more.
