Silver Lake College Holds Information Sessions in Manitowoc and Sheboygan

Thinking about going back to college, but not sure where to start?  Come discover how to earn a degree in as few as two and a half years from Silver Lake College.  Information sessions will be offered on the second Tuesday of each month in order to answer your questions about the college.  Learn about the dozens of undergraduate majors leading to a bachelor’s degree, the four graduate level programs, adult accelerated programs, teacher certification and licensure offerings, on- and off-campus delivery options, and financial aid availability.  The first session will take place on October 19th from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at Silver Lake College, and 5:30 – 6 PM at the Sheboygan Job Center.  “Bring your unofficial transcript or other educational records, and begin exploring a world of new opportunities,” says Cindy St. John, Director of Admissions.

Silver Lake College to Host Alumni Weekend

Silver Lake College, as part of its 75th Anniversary Celebration, will host its  Alumni Weekend, June 11 – June 13.  Alumni Weekend is designed to give alumni, friends, current and retired faculty and staff a chance to gather at the campus, reminiscence about their college memories and participate in a variety of activities designed specifically with their interests in mind. 

The schedule of events features many activities including an Alumni Choir, an Alumni Art Exhibit, Historical Campus Walk, Clare Hall Tours, Holy Family Convent Tours, Awards Dinner, and a special feature called “Alumni College”.

The Alumni College is a series of 1 hour classes held on Saturday, June 12th taught by Silver Lake College Faculty and Alumni.  These classes are designed with Life-Long Learners in mind and are free and open to the public. 

Topics Include:

  • Hey – Are You Going to Eat That?

If you have ever wanted to learn about which mushrooms in the woods are delicious and which are destructive (to your kidneys), come see this multimedia presentation where there will be works of art and poetry, mushrooms to taste, and delightful prizes.

  • Understanding the Bible

How do you reconcile the contradictions in the Bible? Is Scripture meant to be read literally? Learn how to read Scripture with Sister Francette.

  • Your Family Kneads Bread

Making bread is easier than you think, and it’s a great way to spend time with your children or grandchildren. Come learn how!

  • Digital Photo Editing

Experiment with free photo-editing software so that you can enhance your pictures without paying for expensive software. (limit 12 participants)

  • Discrepant Events

Put on your lab coat, and predict what you think will happen in this scientific experiment!

  • Living in the Solar and Sustainable Home You Already Own

Learn how you can adapt and adjust your home and lifestyle to living more sustainably and economically. Julie Mayrose and Peter Brockhaus will share many of the ideas and technologies they use at their off-grid solar home in northern Wisconsin.

  • Question Everything

No belief can be taken for granted in one’s quest to be fully authentic and authentically free.

Silver Lake College holds Campus Visit Day for Transfer Students

Silver Lake College invites prospective transfer students to a Campus Visit Day on Saturday, November 28 to learn more about Silver Lake College’s many degree programs and flexible delivery options.  The Visit Day will be held from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Generose Enrichment Center on the Silver Lake College Campus, located at 2406 S. Alverno Road in Manitowoc.

This Visit Day is designed to provide information to students on transferring credits to Silver Lake College, showcase the affordability of a Silver Lake College Education, and offer insight as to how a degree from Silver Lake College can provide options for a successful future.

Silver Lake College Celebrates Homecoming

Silver Lake College proudly invites all Alumni and Friends back to the College for Homecoming November 13-15, 2009.  A weekend full of family friendly events is planned complete with an Alumni Basketball Game on Saturday, November 14, featuring the Lady Lakers versus an Alumni Women’s team coached by Don Koeser (Lady Laker coach from 1989-2001).

The weekend schedule includes:

Friday, November 13 –

6:30 pm – Welcome reception with President Arnold in the Private Dining Room

7:30 pm – Student Solo Voice and Instrument Recital

Saturday, November 14 –

8:30 am – Memorial Mass, Campus Chapel

10:00 am – Ribbon Cutting for the new campus Bookstore (all those in attendance will be registered to win prizes)

3:00 pm – Lady Laker’s vs. Women’s Alumni Basketball Team Coached by Don Koeser (Game will be held at the UW-Manitowoc Fieldhouse)

Half Time will feature a Dunk Contest, Giveaways, and Free-Throw Contest

6:00 pm – Alumni Reunion Receptions at Generose Enrichment Center

Featuring the following groups: English Club/Mattermind; SCEC/Special Education; and MENC/Music

7:00 pm – Alumni Dinner on campus

8:00 am – Noon – 35th Annual Pancake Breakfast and Bake Sale
