Silver Lake Offers One-Credit Weekend Graduate Education Classes

October 16, 2009

This Fall, Silver Lake College will be offering two, one-credit, Graduate Education Weekend Classes at the Mount Senario Education Center in Ladysmith, WI.

“Introduction to Differentiating Instruction” will be taught November 13 from 5-9 pm and November 14 from 8-4 pm by Instructor Dana Sommerfeld. This class is designed to provide classroom teachers with a basic understanding of the process of differentiated instruction as well as to provide a framework for the teachers to develop strategies for the effective differentiation of instruction in a regular classroom setting. Specifically, the teacher will:

  1. Develop an understanding for the unique needs of learners within a regular classroom setting.
  2. Be able to demonstrate strategies to differentiate instruction for students in their classrooms.

The above objectives are in alignment with the Wisconsin Standards for Teacher Development and Licensure.

“USE IT (Useful Spanish for Elementary/Intermediate Teachers)” will be taught December 4 from 5-9pm and December 5 from 8-4 pm by Instructor Mario Friedel. This course is designed to provide non-Spanish speaking teachers with the skills and resources needed to share the Spanish language and culture with elementary/middle school students. By using 24 sequential lesson plans, participants will learn how to learn and then introduce and share basic practical Spanish through the implementation of a creative model of instruction.

The cost of each class is $410 and the application fee will be waived for the first 10 registrants.  For more information or to register for these classes, please call 800-236-4752 Extension 222.
