SLC Art Exhibit: Animal Buffet: a Progression of Abstract-Representationalism

December 31, 2009

Crayon Drawing entitled: "Lil' Zeuss"

Silver Lake College, 2406 South Alverno Road, invites the public to attend the guest art exhibit, Animal Buffet: a Progression of Abstract-Representationalism. The exhibit, which features the paintings of Ernest Beutel, will appear in the art hallway from January 15 – February 15, 2010.

Mr. Beutel earned his B.F.A. from Barat College in Lake Forest, Illinois in 2001 and is currently completing his certification for Art Education at Silver Lake College.  His work has been exhibited at The Flying Pig Gallery in Algoma, WI, The Francis Hardy Gallery in Ephraim, WI, Charlene’s Gallery Ten in Gill’s Rock, WI, The Miller Art Museum in Sturgeon Bay, WI and the Guenzel Gallery at The Peninsula Art School in Fish Creek, WI.  In 2007 Mr. Beutel was selected for the Emerging Artist Program of the Peninsula Art School.  His work is currently represented by The Paint Box Gallery in Ephraim, WI, The Mill Road Gallery in Sister Bay, WI and Helanders in Lake Forest, IL.

Mr. Beutel’s work reveals elements of both abstraction and representation.  He employs a variety of mediums, including crayon.  Regarding this process, he states, “I have gone from using acrylic paint to drawing with crayon.  It was a form of progression/re-visitation.  Crayon, being one of the fundamental tools of a child, is often overlooked as a form of valid expression in later years.”  Animal Buffet presents images of animals and heavy machinery, such as trucks and farm equipment.  Mr. Beutel describes the machines as, “seemingly prehistoric beasts of iron and steel.”  He defines his art process as a never-ending journey and is, “just happy to be along for the ride.”

The Exhibit is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday: from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
