A Musical Birthday Celebration Concert

The Silver Lake College Music Department will present a “Musical Birthday Celebration” concert on Wednesday, February 24th at 7:30 pm in the Silver Lake College Chapel located at 2406 South Alverno Road in Manitowoc.  The concert, which is free and open to the public, will showcase the talents of the Silver Lake Chorale and the Concert Choir.

 The concert will feature composers who were born in the years 1710 (Pergolesi), 1760 (Cherubini), 1810 (Robert Schumann and Frederic Chopin), and 1910 (Samuel Barber).  The Silver Lake Chorale will perform a variety of choral selections including Robert Schumann’s “Zahnweh” which is a setting of Robert Burns’ poem entitled, “Address to the toothache.”  The Concert Choir will perform selections from the Cherubini Requiem which is one of the few choral selections composed by Cherubini yet infuses dramatic compositional elements from his operatic style.
